Lost / Found Pets

Lost / Found Pets TIPS

When pets are lost or found, knowing what to do is important to getting the pet reunited with their owner. Here are a few tips to help if you lose or find a pet in Greene County.

  • Report a lost or found pet with the Greeneville-Greene County Humane Society. Call or come in during business hours. The Humane Society’s Adoption Center keeps a database of all lost and found pets reported. Visit or call every couple of days to see if your lost pet is there.

Address: 400 N Rufe Taylor Rd. Greeneville TN, 37745

 Hours: 12:00pm-4:00pm Tuesday through Saturday

 Phone: (423)639-4771

  • Report a lost or found pet with the Greene County Animal Control. It is best to go in person and look at their animals. Check their Facebook page daily (Volunteers of Greene County, TN Animal Control).

Address: 990 Hal Henard Rd. Greeneville TN, 37743

Hours: 8am-4pm Mon-Fri | 8am-12pm Sat | closed 12pm-1pm for lunch

Phone: (423)798-1777

  • Alert your neighbors immediately. Ask them if they would mind checking their garage or basement if your pet is lost. Sometimes a pet, especially a cat, will go into an open garage or basement and the homeowner will unknowingly close them in there. There is an app called Nextdoor that you can post your pet on and neighbors that have the app will be alerted.

  • Repost a lost or found pet on PawBoost. You can report a lost or found pet for free by filling out a short form on PawBoost’s website or mobile app. You’ll provide the pet’s photo, details, and location Once submitted, your alert is automatically created and shared across multiple channels: Facebook, email alerts, Nextdoor, and PawBoost’s Lost & Found Database, which gets over 2.5 million visits per month. www.pawboost.com

  • Contact the Greeneville Sun They offer a free five day lost or found ad in their classified section. They accept entries by email only. You will need to email your billing information to set up an account. This includes: name, address, city, state, zip code. Include the best phone number in addition to the description of the pet. If you would like to add a picture it is $12. Email: tanya.hensley@greenevillesun.com

  •  Call WGRV radio (423)638-4147. They will announce lost and found pets during their programming.

  • Flyers are always a great idea. You can ask local businesses to post your flyer, including Veterinarian offices.

  • Scan for a microchip. Any veterinarian office, Animal Control, or the Humane Society will scan a found animal for a microchip. Note that if your pet is microchipped, please make sure your contact information is up to date.

  • Check for rabies tag. If you find a pet wearing a rabies tag, call Animal Control so they can research the tag number and find the owner’s information. Note that all pets should have a current rabies vaccination. Dogs need to have a current rabies tag attached to their collar.

  • Post on Social Media. Many pets are found using social media, especially Facebook. On these pages you’ll want to post a photo of the pet and a detailed description. Just log into Facebook and search for the following pages: Greene Co. Lost & Found (TN), LOST PETS in Greene County and surrounding areas, LOST and FOUND Pets of East Tennessee, Greene County Tenn Animal Lovers, Lost and Found Pets of the TriCities TN-VA, & Greeneville Pets Lost and Found. You will want to regularly check these pages in case someone has found your lost pet and posted it. Put a specific area where the pet was lost or found. Put your phone number on the post or ask people to message you. Keep your post updated. Another Facebook page that you will want to check daily for a lost pet is Volunteers of Greene County, TN Animal Control. Strays are posted daily by volunteers on this page.
